Goals
Dejan’s mission is to save every animal, and provide them with food, shelter, love, safety and medical care, while raising awareness both within Serbia and internationally about the importance of treating them with kindness, respect and dignity.
Due to travel restrictions resulting from COVID-19, the number of dogs and cats at the shelter has increased to more than a thousand, making it difficult to cover bills and fundraise for additional projects such as the construction of winter shelter buildings and dog houses.
Thank you very much for your support of the shelter, and for helping save the stray animals of Serbia. Every dollar counts, and we couldn’t do it without you.
THE PRIMARY GOALS OF VUCJAK SHELTER ARE:
To provide nourishment for the 1000+ dogs, cats and several wild animals that live at the shelter. They need high quality food to stay healthy enough to survive the cold, wet winters in Serbia.
To pay a veterinarian who will visit the shelter every day, give the newest rescues a check-up, treat the ill ones and to spay/neuter the dogs. Caring for 1000+ animals means that there are sick dogs and emergency cases on a daily basis.
To rent a house for the very sick and injured animals—they can’t live in the shelter and deal with the circumstances there, and need a quiet and warm place to rest.
To improve the conditions at the shelter by: building winter shelter, wooden houses and enclosures for the dogs; buying stoves for the winter and—in the future—building a heated enclosure for the dogs to live in during the cold winter months.
To pay workers who can help Dejan care for the dogs and clean the shelter on a daily basis—just imagine how much poop there is to clean with 1000+ dogs!
To buy a newer shelter car—the current car is breaking down every few weeks as it is very old now—to pick up the animals who need to be rescued and to take them to a veterinarian.
To dig 2 new water wells on the property to ensure there is always avaiable water if one freezes.
